About Village Optical & Our History
Village Optical of Delaware has a history of nearly (4) decades. When WE started out in the Optical field back in the mid-1980’s, the company was called Singer Specs Discount Vision Center. This was a company-owned location in Dover, DE, and was owned by the Singer family out of Philadelphia, PA. Franchising was being offered in 1985 and we took advantage of the opportunity to become self-employed and own our own business. We were a Franchisee with Singer Specs Vision Center from 1985 through 1996. A larger Optical company based out of New York purchased the Singer group of stores in April 1996. The company was Sterling Optical and they were a national chain with intentions of growing much larger in the coming years. This prompted us to open an additional (4) stores over the next (15) years.
After nearly 30 years in the franchise business, it was time to go private and convert the remaining Sterling Optical office’s into Village Optical’s. Today, we are operating at our (3) Delaware locations in Dover, Milford, and Milton. We have a very experienced staff with decades of experience! You will not be disappointed with your Village Optical experience.
